The idea for the festival was born out of the need to present the potential of the Polish textile tradition and highlight the many possibilities of textile application. It was the first event devoted solely to textiles, with the hope of bringing them back to where they belong – in the fields of art and interior design.
The programme included the main exhibition (Concordia Design), workshops, shows, discussions and lectures, attended and led by both Polish and foreign artists and academics. The works presented were also created by artists from different countries. The event was a great opportunity for the fabrics to go beyond the boundaries of one building and gallery. The festival permeated the city, reaching people whose daily lives do not necessarily revolve around fabrics.
Here is what Małgorzata Bernady, the festival’s curator, said about her vision of the event:
“Textiles are so ubiquitous in our life that we very often fail to notice them. They appear in many places and serve different roles: decorative, functional or artistic. They inspire, evoke emotions, bring back memories and embrace the future. The only limit to their application is the imagination of artists, designers and users.
It is the abundance of contexts for textile application that provided inspiration (...) for creators, designers, artists, students, lecturers, interior designers, architects and businesses using fabrics in their products to gather in one place. This multitude of contexts made textiles the main theme of the exhibition, lectures, meetings, discussions and activities in the urban space, and helped these undertakings coexist and interpenetrate, unlocking the potential hidden within textiles and people who work with them."
