For the second time, Dekoma had the opportunity to collaborate with Impact, one of the most important economic and business conferences in Central and Eastern Europe, which took place on 15-16 May 2024 in Poznań. Just like last year, we provided fabrics used to create the decor in the artistic zone designed by the Poznanian studio Supergirls Do Design.
The Impact`24 event provides an opportunity to discuss the most current global events and trends, and to seek solutions for the most difficult problems facing the world. In their speeches and discussions, the Poznań conference participants touched upon such areas as the economy, innovation, politics, social movements, and environmental protection, as well as education, art and culture. Women’s voices were particularly prominent this year, with speakers including Michelle Obama, Verity Harding, Sanna Marin and Esther Perel. Poland was represented by Barbara Nowacka, Martyna Wojciechowska, Natalia de Barbaro and Marta Niedźwiecka, among other women. Women’s Empowerment, one of the conference’s 23 thematic tracks, addressed issues of equality, counteracting gender discrimination, and improving the position of women in the labour market.
Each edition of the Impact conference features ImpactArt, a space for presenting and experiencing art. It expresses the conviction that art is not only an aesthetic experience but also an essential component of the well-being of society, commenting on important political, economic and social issues, and a sensitive barometer of change, moods, and human emotions.
This year’s exhibition presented items from the Impact Art Collection created under the banner of the event, focusing on the work of Polish female artists from the younger generation, and including works dedicated to the phenomenon of exploitation: the planet in the case of Alicja Biała, and the female body in the work of Monika Falkus. Both artists perceived and explored the consequences of the exploitation of privilege: the degradation, weakening and deprivation of subjectivity. The Impact Art zone also featured works from the collection of the Wrocław-based Krupa Art Foundation: Paweł Baśnik, Ewa Doroszenko, Pola Dwurnik, Zuzanna Janosz, Ewa Juszkiewicz, Katerina Lysovenko, Iza Opiełka and Wiktoria. Here, too, the leitmotif was femininity and the strength, body, delicacy and inner strength associated with it.
The designers of the zone arrangement, SUPEGIRLS DO DESIGN, reflected these qualities in meaty and fleshy colours, from maroon through red to soft pink. They alluded to the female body in the shapes of the carpets, the soft materials, and the specially selected seating. A red oviduct-corridor directed visitors to the interior of the exhibition – the ‘body’, consisting of 3 rooms, ranging from a dark maroon, through a flesh-coloured one, to a transparent, ‘epidermis’ one, separated entirely by fabric.
As part of our collaboration with the organisers of Impact`24, our fabrics were used in arranging the artistic zone. More than 100 metres of flame-retardant Foga fabric in the shade Coconut Milk were used to create this scenography. Neutral, heavily draped curtains marked off the space of this zone and provided a backdrop for the paintings on display. The warm white of the fabric offered a visual counterbalance to the colourful elements of the stage design: walls, seats and carpeting.
The lounge/networking area again featured the Hoshi Snow fabric curtains used last year, digitally printed in a colourful gradient. The semi-transparent fabric with a colourful print separated the areas for conversation and resting. The artists from SUPEGIRLS DO DESIGN were also behind the design for the scenography of this area, as they were last year.
