LINEN SUMMER. SUMMER LINEN. Part 1

Linen is a noble and luxurious fabric. Smooth, with a natural shine, linen textiles are exceptionally organic and pleasant to the touch! This contradicts the old beliefs about linen fabrics which used to be associated with a rough, crumpled, unpleasant material that scratched the skin. Thanks to modern processing of linen, which permanently softens its fibres and gives it a tactile and visual gentleness, these stereotypes are very different from today’s reality. Modern linen is neither rough nor unpleasant, it is pleasingly soft and beautifully malleable. Depending on its weight, it may be ethereally airy, or quite the contrary: thick, fleshy, and splendidly flowy.

Modern technologies have made it possible to refine linen fabrics and create blends with other fibres such as cotton, wool, silk, viscose, polyester, and Lycra. The latter process turned out to be an effective way to soften fabrics as well as reduce the price of the product.

Various weaves and thread thicknesses in linen make it an extremely attractive material in the design of contemporary interiors. With appropriate weaving, softening and creasing, linen can be used both in minimalist and more traditional interiors, each time lending a touch of cleanliness, cosiness and naturalness.

Strong and durable linen with a thicker thread and denser weaving is superb as an upholstery fabric, as any signs of its wear and tear do not ruin, but rather add noble charm to the furniture. Easily drapable linen blends with thinner threads will be a great choice for virtually any interior when used in curtains, shades, semi-transparent panels, and natural, airy veils. Such a play with textures often turns out to be the most important element of the interior’s amicable ambience. Lightweight and ethereal linens are an especially good match for summertime spaces, where we seek airiness and freshness. By contrast, denser linen curtains, falling heavily on the floor and blocking the light, provide shelter and thermal insulation during scorching hot days. Regardless of their function, linen window blinds give the interior a very sensuous character and create a mellow mood of summer mornings, days and evenings.

Looking at summer interiors, it is also impossible to underestimate the role of table linen. With its naturalness and freshness, it makes even the most modest table look festive and helps to create a magical atmosphere. A summer set of tablecloths, runners or napkins will prove useful in any home, accompanying its residents all year round for many years.
We cannot even imagine kitchen equipment without exceptionally hygroscopic linen cloths and towels, which are easy to use and maintain. Their natural, always fresh appearance also contributes to creating a pro-ecological and health-promoting atmosphere in the kitchen and dining space of the house.

In the bedroom, during hot summer nights, softened linen will bring relief and pleasant cooling due to its thermoregulatory properties and extraordinary breathability. Fresh, sensuously creased linen cushions, blankets or airy curtains will revive the look of a room and endow it with aesthetic calm, as well as soothe the senses.
