AVRILE
Autumn polonynas in the Bieszczady Mountains have provided a perfect backdrop for this photo shoot. Their boundlessness and airy, multi-coloured landscape hungered for form, variable, pliable shape and colour, depending on the changing light.
Autumn days in a mountainous landscape have the capacity to astonish with a fickle aura changing several times a day. This time was no different. Stillness contrasted with strong gusts of wind, the sun, initially strong and fierce, became unrecognisably soft and subtle towards the end of the day. These evident changes imprinted with redoubled force on the snapshots of pliable and supple fabrics transformed by the erratic weather.
In this windy landscape, with discoloured beeches and grasses in the background, their colours changed beyond recognition in a dynamic, non-rhythmic dance. Every little gust of wind took away their subtleness and created drama, only to endow them with romantic airiness again. No two moments were the same, just as no two portraits were the same in this textile theatre.
Glossy satin embraces chiaroscuro differently than matte georgette. Mountainous landscapes, submerged in a misty glow, enveloped the fabric draperies. The fabric absorbed the light and blended into the autumn colours of the background. At other times, it glittered like the truest gold, reflecting the wealth of nature. The same texture, in the same colour, created surprising effects, depending on the time of day and the spectacle in the Bieszczady sky.
Air is certainly their element. It makes fabrics come to life, show their most beautiful demeanour, change colours and their intensity, thus becoming utterly irresistible. They look best amidst mountainous transparencies. In their vigour, the fabric shimmers and softens, seemingly fading in space. It becomes elusively pellucid and transparent. Looking at delicate weaves prominent in the light reflections and airy highlights, it is possible to find thin, even microscopic weft and warp lines.
The photo shoot commissioned by DEKOMA was taken by MBBM Studio.
